BANGOR — A structure fire in Bangor early Sunday morning left three people dead.
According to a press release from Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss, a call of a fire at a vacant duplex located at 194 and 196 Union Street came in just before 5 a.m.
Moss said the building has not been occupied for about a year.
She said the three people who died in the fire have been identified as 28-year-old Tim Tuttle, 31-year-old Dylan Smith and 56-year-old Andrew Allen.
According to Moss, all three were homeless.
The release said their remains have been brought to the Medical Examiner’s Office, and autopsies will be done Monday.
Moss said two other people escaped from the building. One was helped by a passing citizen, and the other was rescued by the Bangor Fire Department.
Moss said the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Bangor Police and Fire Departments are continuing to investigate the cause and will be back on scene Monday.
