FLAGSTAFF TOWNSHIP – A Eustis man accidentally shot and killed himself early Tuesday evening in the first hunting incident this year.
Mark Henderson, 47, called the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office shortly before 6 p.m. to report that he had accidentally shot himself, according to a statement issued by Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesman Mark Latti.
Latti said it was nearly an hour before first responders located Henderson.
According to Latti, Henderson inadvertently shot himself while bird hunting near Flagstaff Lake.
Latti said efforts to revive Henderson lasted for nearly 40 minutes in the back of a game warden’s truck on a remote logging road as they tried to reach an ambulance.
Latti said there have been three fatal hunting incidents during the past 10 years.
