FAIRFIELD — An early morning house fire took the life of one woman and seriously injured a man.
The Fairfield fire and police departments responded to the residential fire on Bear Mountain Road just before 4 a.m Saturday.
There, response officials found what they believed to be the remains of 56-year-old Rebecca Merrifield, who lived at the home.
Her body was taken to a local funeral home. DNA testing will be used to fully identify the remains.
Officials said 60-year-old Glenn Clausen had sustained serious injuries in the fire and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The Skowhegan, Oakland, Norridgewock, Waterville and Clinton fire departments assisted with the call.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
