PRESQUE ISLE — A woman was rescued after slipping and falling forty feet at Aroostook State Park in Presque Isle Friday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and wildlife, 37-year-old Zara Gillis of Caribou was hiking on the trail to the south peak when she slipped on snow.
The release says Gillis had a possible broken hip, facial lacerations and was not able to walk.
A game warden arrived on scene at 3 p.m. and requested a helicopter to help get her out, but the Maine Forest Service and National Guard could not respond due to snow and winds, according to the release.
Seven game wardens and Presque Isle rescue personnel carried her out the half mile.
Gillis was transported to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle.
