HAMPDEN — Flamingos are flocking to the Hampden area.
The Hampden Academy Music Association is holding a flamingo fundraiser to help send students in its jazz band and show choir to perform at Universal Studios in 2022.
“There will be a music festival where the jazz groups and the show choirs will perform and we can stay at Universal for a couple of days. We do this once every four years,” said band Vice President Jonathan Fenders.
For a donation of $20, the music association will put the flamingos at a community member’s home.
Those who don’t want their yard filled with the pink birds can buy “do not flock insurance” for $30.
“We’re hoping that maybe businesses will get involved and start flocking each other. Like, out in front of the Anglers that’s in Hampden there might be a flock of flamingos there one day. Who knows,” said musician Sammi Brooker.
The students are hoping to raise $100,000.
There is also a GoFundMe page for anyone who just wants to donate.
Flamingos can be put in all RSU 22 towns, which are Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport and Frankfort.
