MADAWASKA — Rep. Jared Golden successfully lobbied against an amendment from the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA recommended that the paper instructions that accompany prescription medications should be changed to digital.
Golden said having a physical copy of the instructions is more convenient for many people.
He said his inspiration came from visiting Twin Rivers paper mill in Madawaska — the leading manufacture of the paper inserts.
“I represent those people at the mill. Those jobs are critically important to that community. If you go to Madawaska what do you think would happen to their economic future if that mill shut down?”
According to Golden, the mill employs more than 500 people.
