SULLIVAN – An eagle is safe after being saved by some fishermen Monday.
Tyler Strasenburgh of Blue Hill said he and his buddy, Pat Brown, of Hermon were setting traps on Flanders Pond about 7 a.m. Monday when he noticed something dark on the ice.
He said a closer inspection revealed it was an eagle that was in bad shape.
“It was laying there face first with its legs on its back and at first I thought it was dead but it picked its head up and looked at me like it was aware. It heard me walking towards him,” he said.
Strasenburgh said it was on the ice with tracks all around it like it had been dragged by an animal and a larger eagle was watching nearby.
Tyler and his buddy called the Maine Warden Service and placed a coat over the eagle to keep it warm until they arrived.
The wardens said the eagle was taken to Avian Haven in Freedom for treatment.
