BIDDEFORD (WGME) — A deadly shooting Tuesday afternoon at a Union Street apartment building started as an argument between two men over an eviction.
WGME has been following this story and talked to the victim’s neighbors.
“The next thing we know, it was police everywhere and, of course, the girlfriend was out here like screaming crazy frantically she just witnessed Doug be shot,” neighbor Tillisa Davenport said.
Just minutes before the shooting, Davenport was walking down the sidewalk with her 7-year-old.
“It was just hollering between the two guys. Mainly they were yelling back and forth,” she said.
According to city tax records, Douglas Michaud owned the apartment building at 26 Union St. Neighbors said Randal Hennessey lived there. Multiple witnesses said the argument between the two men was over an eviction notice Michaud was serving to Hennessey that day.
“He’s an old friend of mine and, yeah, he was just trying to evict one of his tenants,” said a woman who lives nearby and who identified herself as Kaytee.
“It’s hard to grasp,” she said.
Those who knew Michaud said they are beside themselves. They said his girlfriend is pregnant and due any day.
“It’s shocking, obviously, especially to find out like it’s going on outside your house and turns out you know him. It’s completely shocking, Kaytee said.
Davenport said Michaud was “nice, always friendly. I never seen him angry with anybody until he and Randall had a few disputes,” Loranger said.
