MACHIAS — Two emeritus faculty members at the University of Maine at Machias are being praised for their service to the university.
Richard and Elsie Larson taught business administration to students from 1977 to 2005, and since they’ve retired, they have continued to donate time and money to the school.
Richard Larson said they finalized a deed transfer of their home to the University of Maine Foundation on Monday.
He said they can live in their home as long as they’d like, but when they are ready to move, the foundation will sell the home and all net proceeds will go to UMaine Machias.
“Without students, colleges and universities do not exist, so we’re hoping that the university can enroll and utilize those funds,” Richard Larson said. “We’re optimistic being able to work with the University of Maine helping each other across the region and in Washington County’s rural areas.”
Although they were both business professors, Elsie Larson added they both would like to see the funds spread across the board to areas of need.
