ELLSWORTH – Despite COVID-19 altering usual Thanksgiving feasts, the Ellsworth Elks Lodge still provided community members with dinners to go.
Ellsworth Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Eric Hoard said the annual Thanksgiving dinner, organized by the late Don Clark, was turned over to them about five years ago.
Volunteers cooked and filled each bag with a variety of Thanksgiving foods and distributed them in a drive-through fashion.
According to Hoard, about 200 people preordered meals.
“Normally I love it because everybody comes in here. We’ve had 250 to 300 people before in here,” Hoard said. “But, having to just do it, it’s different having to do a takeout thing. In some ways it’s easier and other ways, it’s just hectic. We haven’t stopped in there all morning.”
Hoard said a steady flow of cars came throughout the day, and at some points, traffic was backed down the road.
