ELLSWORTH – City officials in Ellsworth are discussing connecting the Ellsworth Rail Trail to the Sunrise Trail.
If the city council approves, a study assessing route options and safety will be conducted.
The study is expected to cost $50,000 but half of that total would be coming from the Maine Department of Transportation.
“To be able to make that connection safety to amenities, services, schools, should be able to help getting some of that traffic reduced on main corridors, allowing people to walk or bike,” said Janna Richards, the city’s director of development.
If city council approves the study at its next regular meeting, Richards said, it is expected to be completed by June.
