AUGUSTA – Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap said an effort to repeal a vaccination law has qualified to be on the 2020 statewide referendum ballot.
In a statement, Dunlap confirmed the people’s veto petition to repeal a law that removes certain exemptions for vaccines has submitted the required number of signatures to qualify for the ballot.
More than 29,000 with more than 95,000 signatures were submitted back in September.
The Secretary of State says over 79,000 of those signatures were valid, which exceeds the minimum of 63,067 signatures required by state law for a successful people’s veto effort.
It will now appear before voters on March 3, 2020, on the day of the presidential primary.
