STATEWIDE – The Secretary of State’s Office is alerting businesses and nonprofits to be aware of a misleading solicitation.
Secretary of State Matt Dunlap said it offers to file annual reports for a $185 fee.
Dunlap said while it looks similar to the Division of Corporations’ annual report form, the department never sends out mailings or emails requesting information.
“There’s a lot of information these organizations are offering to process for companies and corporate entities that we don’t look for. We don’t require things like agendas and meeting minutes from annual meetings, which is one of the things they often offer to process for the company for a fee, so we just want people to be aware of that and not spend money that they don’t have to spend,” Dunlap said.
Dunlap said his office has been notified by six companies that have gotten the letters in the last week and he feels there are a lot more letters in the mail to other businesses and nonprofits across the state.
He said to contact the Division of Corporations for information about corporate annual reports and other business filing requirements.
