HAMPDEN – “It could have been a lot worse.” That’s how Hampden police are describing an accident on the Bog Road Wednesday.
It happened about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Officer Ben Eyles says an SUV went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and flew about 100 feet through the air before landing on a structure, which he says absorbed the impact.
“As bad as it was, it could have been a lot worse,” Officer Eyles said. “He avoided some trees. He avoided a larger structure. There was actually a witness that saw it, which allowed it to be reported to us. The way it landed we may not have noticed it if it hadn’t been reported so we’re thankful for that.”
Eyles say the older driver was the only person in the car.
He had only minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
