PENOBSCOT COUNTY – The Penobscot County Grand Jury handed up indictments against dozens of people Thursday, among them a Winterport father who had been previously charged in connection with the overdose death of his 1-year-old child.
Shane Smith, 31, was indicted on charges of unlawful drug possession and violating conditions of release.
Police said he was found in possession of meth in Howland, which violated his bail on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held without bail at Penobscot County Jail.
Also indicted was 18-year-old Devin VanDine of Brewer, who police say stabbed another man on Chamberlain Street in October.
He is charged with aggravated assault.
Christopher Webber, 43, of Bangor was indicted on a number of drug charges in connection with an incident in October in Old Town.
Police said they found Webber asleep in his truck and a search turned up a stolen handgun, more than $4,000 and a large amount of drugs.
Webber is charged with aggravated drug trafficking, unlawful trafficking, unlawful possession and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
The grand jury also indicted 38-year-old Harji Rogers on charges including robbery, elevated aggravated assault and refusing to submit to arrest.
Dexter police allege Rogers and his girlfriend robbed a residence on Maple Street in March and then led authorities on a car chase before eventually being captured.
