DEXTER — A pair of Dexter residents remain in Penobscot county jail after being arrested in connection with a shooting in Dexter Thursday night.
Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle said when police arrived at a Saint Francis Street home Thursday night, they found one woman who had been shot in her leg. He said the bullet went through a car door before hitting her in the leg, as the woman was trying to leave the property.
Wintle said the wounded woman was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft where she was treated and released.
The police chief said Dexter police were sent to the house after reports of numerous shots having been heard.
According to Wintle, police arrested 35-year-old Michael Wilson and 36-year-old Erica Wilson. He said both Wilsons were charged with aggravated assault in connection with the alleged shooting incident.
Wintle said Dexter police Cpl. Dana Gatcomb was the first to arrive at the home and was told the confrontation started with a physical fight and escalated to shots being fired.
Wintle said children ages 11 and 6 were in the home and taken into the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
The Wilsons were taken to Penobscot County Jail after they were arrested.
