BANGOR – The father of a baby, who overdosed on fentanyl and died last fall, was back in court Wednesday on charges related to methamphetamine.
Shane Smith, 31, of Winterport was arrested Monday night by state police for violating his bail conditions.
He had previously been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, in connection to the death of his 1-year-old daughter, Jordynn Nelligan.
Jordynn’s mother, 33-year-old Kimberly Nelligan, is facing the same charge after authorities say she rubbed drug residue in her daughter’s mouth to help her sleep.
According to Penobscot County Assistant District Attorney Chris Almy, Smith was arrested Monday near the Interstate 95 ramp in Howland.
Authorities say they found Smith face down in the grass, yelling that he had eaten methamphetamines.
Almy says Smith had meth in his possession, which was a violation of his bail conditions.
He’s now being held without bail, until a bail hearing on November 4.
