STATEWIDE — According to the director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, COVIDd-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths continue to increase across the state.
Dr. Nirav Shah said Wednesday there were 68 people currently in intensive care whereas two weeks ago, 51 people were in intensive care.
He said that statewide, about two-thirds of everyone hospitalized with COVID-19 had not been vaccinated.
“The U.S. CDC just released data indicating that nationwide, all of adults, the cumulative hospitalization rate is roughly 12 times higher than unvaccinated individuals compared with vaccinated individuals,” he said.
Shah said clinical trials are being conducted on booster shots.
He said it’s possible the recommendation could be that everyone who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine get a booster shot.
