LITCHFIELD – A Litchfield couple was killed in a head-on crash Saturday night and the other driver will face charges.
State police said that the driver of an SUV drifted off the side of the road and then crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck head-on just after 7:30 pm. Saturday night.
Police said they received a call about an erratic driver here Hallowell Road and that moments later, a second call came in about a two-vehicle crash between an SUV and full-sized pickup truck.
Police said the SUV was driven by 60-year-old Shawn Metayer and that they believe he crossed the centerline and struck the pickup truck.
Inside that truck were Derek Trudeau, 48, and his wife Stephanie Trudeau, 40.
Both were killed upon impact. State police said the two were driving to pick up their child from a friend’s house nearby when they were hit.
State police said they believe both alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
Shawn Metayer was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was expected to be charged after his release from the hospital.
