AUGUSTA — A convicted murderer who had escaped 3 times died at the Maine State Prison Thursday night.
Arnold Nash, 68, was serving a 45 year sentence for the 1991 murder and robbery of his neighbor in Sullivan who was a disabled Korean War veteran.
Nash was the subject of one of the states longest manhunts after walking away from a farm detail in 1981 while he was serving time for burglary.
His most recent escape was in 2018 just months before he was scheduled to be released.
Officials with the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office said they felt it was possible he escaped to add more time onto his sentence because he didn’t comfortable going back into society.
