BAR HARBOR — The College of the Atlantic has new housing for about 10 percent of its students.
President Darron Collins said the two complexes are located at the intersection of Glen Mary Road and Norris Avenue and on Bloomfield Avenue.
According to Collins, the nine properties have 31 bedrooms that can house about 40 students.
“The College of the Atlantic has always been a really important part of the town of Bar Harbor. It’s important that we continue to pay property tax on these homes,” Collins said. “These are not dorms, they’re rental for students, and we’re just excited to help eliminate some of the shoulder season that our students have been facing.”
Collins said it has become more common for landowners to rent on a weekly basis into September and October, which is a challenge for students when classes begin before then.
He said they are also building more on-campus housing that is expected to open in the fall of 2023 to ensure all students have sustainable housing.
