GARDINER — Two people are facing charges after police discovered what they say was a considerable amount of cocaine disguised as cake.
Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Commander Peter Arno said agents acting on information from anonymous sources opened an investigation into a New York man allegedly responsible for the distribution of cocaine throughout Somerset and Kennebec counties.
Arno said that on Tuesday afternoon agents stopped a vehicle on Interstate 295 in Gardiner.
John Cedeno, 25, of New York City, and Chelsy Cochran, 33, of Winslow were arrested.
According to Arno, agents found approximately 4 pounds of cocaine that looked like a cake, and $1,900 cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.
Cedeno and Cochran are charged with aggravated drug trafficking.
His bail is set at $750,000 and hers is set at $50,000.
According to Arno, both would likely appear in court on Wednesday.
