CLINTON — The U.S. Marshal Service has arrested a 25-year-old Clinton man on warrants of unlawful sexual contact, unlawful sexual touching, and furnishing liquor to a minor.
Oscar Geovanny Melgar–Flores is accused in connection with a sexual assault alleged to have occurred between himself and a 13-year-old minor in Maine on April 3.
According to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Melgar–Flores fled to Virginia after the victim’s parents alerted authorities.
Clinton police said Melgar–Flores came back to Maine to pick up his 17-year-old girlfriend and their 11-month-old daughter then returned to Virginia.
On Tuesday, Melgar–Flores was arrested without incident at a residence in Newport News, Virginia.
Authorities also recovered the 17-year-old girlfriend and 11-month-old baby and said they determined they were not forced to be there or held against their will.
Melgar–Flores was taken to the Newport News city jail on a fugitive from justice charge and awaits extradition on charges from Maine.
