BANGOR- The American Folk Festival announced they were done for good, but still had a debt to the City of Bangor for more than $100,000.
On Monday night, city councilors voted to forgive that debt.
The festival attracted thousands to the Bangor Waterfront and didn’t charge attendees to come.
Councilors say what the American Folk Festival has brought to the city outweighs that amount.
“At this point they’re unwinding and the face of Bangor has really changed for the positive because of this festival,” said city councilor, Ben Sprague. “The waterfront is completely different than what it was before it started, so we owe a debt of gratitude to the Folk Festival for what they’ve done for the community.”
The American Folk Festival has been a tradition at the Bangor Waterfront for the past eighteen years.
