AMHERST — Farms nationwide are experiencing Christmas tree shortages this holiday season.
The owner of the Christmas Tree Ranch in Amherst said this is the case at his farm.
“There seems to be a tremendous tree shortage, people have been calling me since January of this year looking for wholesale Christmas tree, I could have sold thousands of trees,” said Mike Pomroy, owner of the Christmas Tree Ranch.
Mike Pomroy thinks climate change and truck driver shortages contribute to the limited amount of Christmas trees available, but he says there may be other factors as well.
“I think that people are getting older and going out of business,” he said.
Pomroy said despite the shortages this holiday season, his farm is still providing trees to the public.
“We have openings in the woods and they get to pick the tree they want, saw it down, and bring it up here. They go home and put it up,” said Pomroy.
You can visit the farm at 3844 Mariaville Rd. in Amherst, ME 04605, and contact the farm at 207-409-6488.
