HANCOCK & FRANKLIN – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said one man was taken to the hospital with potentially life threatening injuries after two connected crashes in Hancock County Saturday night.
Officials said Jared Murphy, 18, of Stonington tried to pass a car on Route 182 in Hancock around seven p.m. Saturday, but to avoid hitting a car in the other lane pulled back and hit the car he was trying to pass.
The vehicle he hit went off the road and down a driveway into a parked vehicle.
Officials said Murphy did not stop and later lost control of his pickup about five miles away in Franklin.
His truck went off the road, rolled over, and Murphy was ejected from the vehicle.
He was taken to the hospital for potentially life threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle he hit in Hancock were treated at the scene.
Officials said charges are pending, and alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accidents.
