NATIONWIDE — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning consumers to check the origins of their onions.
The CDC is reporting a salmonella outbreak from onions imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by Pro Source Inc.
Red, white, and yellow onions could potentially be affected and CDC officials are asking businesses to stop selling any potentially infected items.
Investigators are trying to determine whether suppliers or the food itself is to blame.
The CDC said so far there have been roughly 650 reported illnesses across 37 states, the most infections across Texas, Oklahoma and Virginia.
