STATEWIDE — Maine Center for Disease Control Director Dr. Nirav Shah says there are few doses of the vaccine to go around.
The Maine CDC is grappling with that fact right now.
During his briefing Thursday, Shah said Johnson & Johnson is ramping up production of their vaccine but they cleared the shelves during an emergency use authorization.
He said more than three million doses were given to different states in a matter of a week.
Now Maine won’t get enough. “Once we started hearing that the volume of vaccine from J and J would be delivered for our allocation would not be what is was this week,” said Dr. Nirav Shah.
Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew said they want to vaccinate everyone but for now, they are following the schedule Gov. Janet Mills has given.
Lambrew hinted that next month they hope to vaccinate people who are 50 years of age and by May, vaccinate anyone who is 40 years of age and continue to go down the line during the year.
