KITTERY — A Caribou man was killed in an early morning crash on the turnpike.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said it happened at just after 12:30 Thursday in Kittery by the Wilson Road overpass.
According to Moss, 29-year-old Caleb Ewing of Caribou entered the turnpike in Kittery and traveled in the wrong direction going northbound in the southbound lane.
Ewing’s car was hit by a tractor trailer truck being driven by 46-year-old Joshua Stone of Auburn, said Moss
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
Ewing died at the scene. Stone was not injured.
The turnpike was shut down to one lane for hours while crews cleaned up fuel that ruptured from the truck and police investigated the crash.
It’s unclear at this time if speed and alcohol were contributing factors, said Moss.
