BAR HARBOR — Police say one person is dead and four others were brought to area hospitals following a two-car crash in Bar Harbor Sunday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Bar Harbor Mount Desert Police Department, the crash happened on Eden Street, also known as State Route 3, in the area referred to as “The Bluffs” at 4:30 p.m.
Police say 64-year-old Douglas Hager of Yorba Linda, California was driving a mini-van with three other passengers south on Eden Street when he crossed into the northbound lane and hit the guardrail.
The release says the vehicle then went back into the northbound lane.
The driver of the other car, 55-year-old Ruth Cserr of Oxford, New Hampshire, attempted to avoid the mini-van, but they collided head on in the northbound lane, according to police.
Police say 65-year-old Nga Thi Le of Westminster, California, one of the mini-van’s passengers, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two drivers and another passenger in the mini-van were transported to Mount Desert Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A third passenger was life flighted to Northern Light in Bangor with non-life threatening injuries.
The Bar Harbor Fire Department, Life Flight of Maine, Acadia National Park, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency assisted.
