BANGOR – A Brewer man at the center of a reported police standoff over the weekend is behind bars tonight.
48-year old Antonio Burke appeared in court today.
Police say he tried to get into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on Union Street in Bangor on Saturday.
Authorities say she told them Burke had a knife, and attempted to stab her current boyfriend before returning to his home to grab a gun, come back, and kill her and her kids.
Police went to Burke’s home on State Street in Brewer to serve a search and arrest warrant.
Burke refused to come out and barricaded himself inside the home for several hours before police convinced him to surrender.
He was arrested and charged with attempted aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal mischief.
Penobscot County Superior Court Justice William Anderson set his bail at 10-thousand dollars.
“He’s got this bad record, and then he wouldn’t come out” stated Justice Anderson, “he can have any rationalization he wants, but if the police are there, trying to get him to come out and he doesn’t come out for four and a half hours, that would indicate a willingness to do the same in the future probably, so I‘m going to set bail at 10-thousand dollars cash”
Burke was also ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with any of the victims.
