BREWER — The Brewer City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve retail marijuana and adult-use testing in the city.
Michele Daniels, mayor of Brewer, said there is an application process that includes filing a business permit specifically for retail marijuana.
Daniels said she only expects a few applications because the space is limited.
According to Daniels, shops will be allowed in the area of upper Wilson Street and parts of the Dirigo district.
Shops also cannot be within 500 feet of a school or daycare facility.
“We’re looking forward to any businesses that want to come into Brewer, not just recreational marijuana,” Daniels said. “I believe that to add one or two new businesses, it brings in more people and allows for more people to visit businesses that are already here in Brewer.”
Daniels said the ordinance goes into effect five days after the approval, and that’s when businesses can begin applying.
