BANGOR — The Bangor Police Department Bomb Squad was called to a Stillwater Avenue parking lot shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious package, according to a spokesman.
Bangor Police Sgt. Wade Betters said shoppers were asked to stay in Walmart until it was determined the package was harmless.
“Our first responding officers quickly discovered that the device either was a pressure cooker or crockpot type device not in its box, just sitting there plainly in the parking lot. They use their equipment to approach that device and ultimately discovered that it did not contain anything that was explosive or potentially hazardous to the public,” Betters said.
Betters added that it took close to an hour for the bomb squad to determine that the device was not a threat.
The scene is now clear and Walmart is fully reopened.
