GORHAM (WGME) — There are new details on the death of a 3-year-old boy at a mobile home park in Gorham.
Police said the child was hit by a car Wednesday evening that was driven by a 13-year-old girl.
Gorham police did not immediately release information about what led to the child being hit by the car.
“Our heart goes out to the family,” Gorham Police Chief Chris Sanborn said.
Those close to the family said the little boy had apparently crawled under the car, and the 13-year-old girl never saw him.
“He went under the front of the vehicle. And the girl didn t know. And she got in and she went forward,” they said.
No one else was in the vehicle.
Sanborn said police are reconstructing the incident and conducting a thorough investigation into the child s death and the 13-year-old driver.
“She was not related to the decedent,” the chief said. “And as far as why she was behind the wheel of the vehicle, that’s details that we’re trying to obtain at this point.”
Sanborn said the teenage driver and her family are cooperating with the investigation.
He says no criminal charges have been filed against the 13-year-old girl, but they’re not ruling them out.
