BAILEYVILLE — The body of a woman was recovered in the St. Croix River Sunday morning in Baileyville.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, 27-year-old Felicia Tomah of Indian Township fell into the water below the Baileyville Dam and drowned.
Officials say Tomah was with a friend on the Woodland Pulp LLC Hydro Station catwalk just after 10 p.m. Saturday when he looked away, and she fell in the water.
The release says he could not reach her from the catwalk, so he left and called 911 but could not find her upon returning.
The Maine Warden Service and multiple other agencies searched until about 2 a.m. and then resumed at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
A U.S. Border Patrol agent found Tomah’s body 3.7 miles downstream from the dam at 10 a.m.
Officials say the body was taken to Mays Funeral Home in Calais where a state medical examiner will perform an autopsy, but the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police say the death does not seem suspicious.
