AUGUSTA — A proposed law to make it a crime to record a crime without alerting law enforcement hit a roadblock Monday.
Members of the legislature’s Criminal Justice Committee voted against passage of the proposal.
The bill’s sponsor said he would like to see some way to stop people from posting videos showing crimes being committed shared on social media.
“The message should be call 911 when you see something happening, which is the gist of what I’m trying to get at here,” said Sen. Matthew Pouliot, R-Augusta.
The bill now heads to the full legislature, which will consider it within the next few weeks.
