It’s been a long winter and many people are ready to roll but cycling experts say there’s a few things you should probably check as you dust off those bikes from winter storage.
The best and easiest way to remember what to check is a simple A, B, C list
“Air in the tires for A, B brakes and C chain making sure theirs some lubrication on there so its not bone dry” said, Owner of pat’s bike shop Scott Seymour.
A simple list can go a long way to make sure your bicycle runs safe and efficient.
Seymour said business has been busy for the start of this year but suppliers are having shortages,
“Certain things are getting more difficult to obtain bikes under a thousand or 15 hundred you know suppliers are really wiped out.”
So he added it’s more important than ever to have a properly maintained bicycle but officials are also reminding people that everyone shares the road.
Bangors’ Community Resource Officer, Elizabeth Brunton said,
“When your sharing the road its about mutual respect, looking out for each other and also bicyclists make sure your signaling just like a motor vehicle would, so that your helping cars better understand your intentions on the road”
They also recommend having the right safety equipment,
“And helmets we cannot forget about helmets, you need to use a helmet while your biking especially in for example the downtown region, were it can get a little more congested or even when you go out of town when you as a bicyclist are picking up speed your going to want to prevent head injury as best as possible.”
So make sure you stick to the roads, obey the rules and be safe while having a fun time.
