BANGOR – As people are making plans and getting ready to ring in the new year, local bars and restaurants in downtown Bangor have been preparing all day to help you celebrate 2020.
“It’s a little chaotic there’s a lot going on. Everyone has a task but everyone is coming together. The team work is really great and we’re knocking it out getting ready for a busy one,” said Fai Littman, the beverage program manager of Blaze.
New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights for bars in Bangor.
One bartender said people from all across the state of Maine travel here, especially to see the beach ball drop.
Some places start planning the celebrations weeks before New Year’s Eve.
“We sat down about a week ago and we kind of looked at last years numbers and that kind of gives us a good idea what to expect for business,” said Shane Lewis, a chef at Paddy Murphy’s.
Other places start months in advanced.
“They come up with the drinks specials and food specials months in advanced and stuff like that and just kind of go from there,” said Eric McCarthy, a bartender at Sea Dog Brewing Company.
Along with preparations, restaurants order more food and alcohol. Littman said he ordered three to four times more than what he would for a normal weekend at Blaze.
Restaurants are helping you countdown to 2020 with special menus, deals and activities all night long and into the new year.
“Come down, hang out, make sure you have proper ways to get home though. Don’t drink and drive,” McCarthy. “It’s going to be a good time.”
