MOUNT DESERT – A multi-vehicle accident on Mount Desert Island Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a Bar Harbor man.
According to Mount Desert Police, it happened around 2:30 on State Highway 102, just north of the Hall Quarry Road intersection.
Authorities say a car driven by Susan Edson, 70, of Bernard, was traveling south when it crossed into the northbound lane, striking a Honda sedan head-on.
The driver of the Honda, 72-year-old Edward Wells, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A third vehicle traveling behind Wells’ car swerved to avoid the collision and ended up hitting some trees.
Edson was transported to MDI hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The two occupants in the third vehicle were evaluated and released at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
