BAR HARBOR- Bar Harbor had ban cruise ships from stopping there until the end of April, but that date has been pushed out even more.
On Tuesday night, council members unanimously voted to disallow cruise ships throughout the month of June.
They say many of the ones that stop there are the same ones reporting outbreaks and deaths on board.
The town manager says prior to Tuesday, all cruise lines scheduled to make stops there in April and May voluntarily canceled, except for one.
“My point is regardless of whether the state says something, the federal government says something, Canada says something, the only thing we control is what we decide,” said councilor Jill Goldthwait. “Again, no opportunities for social distancing once the state removes any restrictions or cruise ships start coming in.”
Council members said they hope to have a conversation with state officials about cruise line restrictions.
They noted Bar Harbor is one of the most popular spots in the state.
