BANGOR — A Hartland man remained in custody Friday after prosecutors said he strangled a woman in the early morning hours Monday.
Penobscot County Assistant District Attorney Mercedes Gurney told a Bangor judge 26-year-old Ryan Gaudet allegedly repeatedly beat and kicked a woman while they were both passengers in a car.
“She believed that the defendant was trying to kill her and he then dumped her out of the car and abandoned her, leaving her to go door to door trying to seek help before someone finally was able to call for emergency services on her behalf. Witnesses reported that it looked like her face had been pounded in and she was spitting up and coughing up blood,” Gurney said.
Judge Ann Murray set Gaudet’s bail at $25,000 cash.
As of late Friday, he remained in Penobscot County jail.
Gaudet was not required to enter a plea in regard to the charges of robbery and assault because they are felonies.
His case is expected to be presented to an upcoming session of the Penobscot County grand jury.
