STATEWIDE — Members of A Climate to Thrive celebrated their fifth anniversary virtually.
They reflected on the past five years of the organization and talked to the public about current projects the Mount Desert Island-based organization has going on.
The organization members discussed how they are building a climate-friendly microgrid called the MDI Freedom Lab.
“We’re doing this for MDI, and we’re very aware that alone won’t solve climate change so we consistently have our eye to how we can spread this model and spread the reach of it at the same time,” said Johannah Blackman, the board chair for the group.
She added they are submitting a major grant application to the U.S. Department of Energy, working on improving their relationship with Versant Power, and are participating in regulatory reform at Maine’s Public Utilities Commission to build the MDI Freedom Lab.
