ELLSWORTH – Coinciding with last night’s tony awards, the grand theater in Ellsworth is on a mission to bring attention to local artists.
The theater routinely hosts movie nights and cultural gatherings. This weekend was no different.
In an attempt to complete their mission, they held the first ever down east Maine playwright’s festival starring local playwright Sanford Phippen.
“During rehearsals, i was walking away from both plays under rehearsal and i could hear my words all over the place and laughter, and that’s a real thrill, it really is.” Sanford Phippen, Local Playwright
Phippen is also a High School English teacher and an author. The theater will be looking for other local playwrights to participate in upcoming festivals.
