OLD TOWN – There’s new information concerning a tragic accident yesterday at the Expera Mill in Old Town.
Police have identified the victim as 54 year old Mark Guay of Norridgewock.
He was a truck driver for Richard Carrier out of Skowhegan.
Authorities originally said he died as a result of a wood chipper accident, but mill officials said today the man died after falling into a hopper. That’s a large container for bulk materials like wood chips that opens at the bottom.
Captain Lee Miller says it appears Guay was attempting to prepare his chip trailer for unloading and had climbed into the trailer.
At some point he lost his balance and fell into the hopper of the machine approximately 25 feet to the bottom.
