ETNA – An Etna family is searching for answers after their family’s gravesite was found unburied.
Sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, vandals were at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Etna digging up the family site. The digging was so intense that it even exposed the vault boxes which contains the caskets.
Angie Godin says she never expected to see those caskets again after having to bury her family members their. Her father, a World War II veteran, her mother who died of ALS disease, and her sister all lay at the site.
A sexton in charge of the cemetery notified Godin around 6 A.M Friday morning. Godin and her family still in shock.
A suspect or person of interest has not been located, but according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s office, there have been several leads.
Penobscot Sheriff Chief Deputy William Sheehan said in the 20 years he has been with the police department, he has “never seen a grave desecration.”
