BANGOR — A memorial ceremony was held at the Holiday Inn in Bangor to remember first responders who lost their lives serving during the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The event kicked off around 8:30 Saturday morning and featured music, speakers and a time of remembrance for those who died.
The American flag was also lowered, paying tribute to that solemn occasion 20 years ago.
Former member of the Hermon fire department, Alan Wheel, said he has organized the remembrance ceremony for 16 years.
“I was doing it at the fire station, came to work here and I said, ‘nothings going on,’ and I used to come out and put the flag down by myself and then Rich and I, 16 years ago, started doing it,” said Wheel. “It means a lot to me.”
The event closed with a prayer for our country.
