AUGUSTA – Lawmakers are considering a bill to make hayrides safer.
The proposal stems from October’s fatal accident in Mechanic Falls that claimed the life of Messalonskee High School Student.
Sponsor Robert Nutting, has put forward a bill to require the licensing and inspection of Amusement Devices, including hayrides. He says the goal is for the consumer to be confident someone has inspected the ride before going on it. The proposal focuses on instances the public pays for.
A similar bill by Senator Tom Saviello includes safety checks for vehicles in parades.
Nutting’s bill will head next to a work session.
