BANGOR – Join Launchpad for our inaugural Dance-a-Thon to support the Arts in Maine & the Robinson Ballet Company’s the Ralph Robinson Scholarship Fund.
Contestants can register for free, but a minimum pledge of $25 is needed join the Dance-a-Thon. Individual $5 tickets will be available in advance for those who wish to attend ($7 at the door). This is an all-ages community event. The event will take place on Saturday, May 30th from 3pm-11pm at the Union Street Brick Church in downtown Bangor.
Dance-a-thon’s are very similar to a walk-a-thon but participants raise money by dancing. Supporters can register to dance by collecting as many pledges as possible, purchase a ticket to attend or donate directly to the cause. During the event, participants may dance for as long as they wish to, but, if the dancer stops dancing for a period of time deemed “too long” by the judges, they are disqualified.
To register to compete in the Dance-a-thon, simply create a profile on www.crowdrise.com. All event information can be found at www.wearelaunchpad.org/dance-a-thon/ or by emails [email protected] for questions.
Prizes including gift cards from downtown Bangor businesses, concert tickets to Port City Music Hall and more will be awarded throughout the evening to participating dancers for style and flair, including a prize for best outfit. The last dancer remaining will win $250 cash-prize.
A FUN TWIST – “DANCE OFF’S”
Participants may at any time challenge another dancer to a “dance-off”. This is the only time that the dance floor is cleared by the judges, with the exception of the “competing dancers”. The dancer who declared the challenge must pick the music used in the dance off. The competing dancers square off until the judges declare a winner based on audience reaction. The ‘losing’ dancer is allowed to continue in the dance-a-thon, but must wear ankle or wrist weights for the remainder of their participation. The event will feature over a dozen DJ’s and musicians.
Funds raised by the event are used to support the Robinson Ballet’s Ralph Robinson Scholarship Fund and Launchpad’s Forward initiative, which provides support to Maine Youth seeking to pursue a career in the arts.
