BANGOR – The proposed “Babe The Blue Ox,” up for discussion today at the Bangor commission on cultural development.
Leaders of the proposal are asking the group for a grant of 550 dollars to get the project started. The commission works to help create a sense of art and culture in the greater Bangor community.
The project is still pending, but if everything goes as planned, the original sculptor of the 56-year-old Paul Bunyon statue will give Paul his trusty companion.
“At the time, they also wanted to build babe, but they didn’t have enough funds for that, so fast forward 56 years, norm is still with us, and he is willing to take on the project of designing babe and shepherding it until babe stands beside Paul on main street.” Gerry Palmer, Former Bangor City Councilor
The commission’s motion to supply 160 dollars of the 550 requested failed on a tied vote. Palmer will now have the opportunity to present his request again.
Fundraising for the full project is expected to start by this summer.
