AUGUSTA – A man from Lewiston is behind bars today after a woman claimed he had kidnapped her.
It happened late yesterday afternoon at the Walmart in Augusta. A woman approached an employee to say she had been kidnapped and asked the worker to call the police. She said she had been assaulted and needed help.
The woman and 27 year old Assama-vi Koumou-Nete had already left by the time police arrived, but their vehicle was pulled over on the interstate a short time later. He was charged with domestic violence assault, criminal mischief and other charges including violating the conditions of release.
Police say Koumou-Nete had recently been released from jail and he wasn’t supposed to have any contact with the alleged victim.
Additional charges are pending as police investigate the kidnapping accusation.
